A bad boy is a foe to God.

This project is an archive within existing archive, which is the Rare Book Division of New York Public Library, more specifically the children's spelling books published between the late 1700s and the American Civil War. I chose the specific time frame to show how American standard of good breeding and the concept of morality had changed.

Included:

1. That were designed to help children learning English.

2. That were published between late 1700s and the American Civil War.

3. That include moral lessons.

Excluded:

1. That were made for adults (teachers).

2. That merely explain how to spell and write.

3. That could not be read because of the bad physical condition of it.

4. That the Rare Book Division of NYPL did not possess on site.
